Consortium on Green Hydrogen Technology and Economy for an Energy and Ecological Transition in Tunisia

2024-12-25

We are delighted to announce that our proposal for the creation of a research consortium on "Green Hydrogen Technology and Economics for Energy and Ecological Transition in Tunisia" has been accepted by the Research Directorate of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESRST).

The consortium aims to support Tunisia's national green hydrogen strategy by fostering skill development, advancing research, and building expertise in green hydrogen and its related technologies. The project will provide valuable insights through potential assessments and a comprehensive analysis of the entire value chain, including the evaluation of this technology’s impact on the energy system and the environment.

Consortium Composition
The project brings together five prominent Tunisian research structures:
•    LR-99-ES31: Laboratory for the Study of Thermal and Energy Systems (LESTE - ENIM)
•    LR-11-ES16: Materials, Optimization, and Energy for Sustainability Laboratory (MOED - ENIT)
•    LR-99-ES20: Laboratory for Mathematical and Numerical Modeling in Engineering Sciences (LAMSIN - ENIT)
•    LR-18-ES33: Applied Thermodynamics Laboratory (LTA - ENIG)
•    LR-19-ES17: Laboratory for Optimization and Analysis of Industrial and Service Systems (OASIS - ENIT)
The consortium also involves two key socio-economic partners:
•    Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG)
•    Mediterranean Renewable Energy Centre (MEDREC)
Additionally, two international partners are contributing to the project:
•    The Institute for Advanced Energy Technologies (CNR-ITAE), Messina, Italy
•    Center of Energy Technology (ZET), Bayreuth University, Germany

Key Projects within the Consortium
•    Project 1: Development of an Atlas for Green Hydrogen and Power-to-X (PtX) Activities.
Coordinator: OASIS – ENIT
•    Project 2: Identification of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Production Processes and Potential in Tunisia.
Coordinator: LTA – ENIG
•    Project 3: Hydrogen Storage Solutions and Industrial Applications.
Coordinator: LESTE – ENIM
•    Project 4: Impact of PtX Technologies on Energy Demand Forecasting and Investment Scenarios.
Coordinator: MOED - ENIT
