Biography

Dr. Nour SGHAIER-BEN CHIEKH is a Full Professor in Energy Engineering. She obtained her National Engineering Diploma in Energy Engineering (Environmental Option) in 2001 from the National Engineering School of Monastir (ENIM), where she was the class valedictorian. In 2002, she pursued advanced studies in Energy Engineering at ENIM, focusing on drying in capillaries and capillary networks in the presence of solutes, and obtained the Diplôme des Études Approfondies (equivalent to a Master of Science). She then continued her research at both ENIM and the National Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse (INPT), earning a PhD in Energy Engineering in 2006. Her doctoral work focused on drying in porous media saturated with saline solutions.

After her PhD, she joined the Higher Institute of Biotechnology of Monastir (ISBM) as a faculty member, where she has held various academic and administrative responsibilities. She obtained her University Habilitation in Energy Engineering in 2017 and was later promoted to Full Professor in 2024. During her research career, she has participated in several research internships at international institutions, including the Toulouse Institute of Fluid Mechanics (IMFT) and other collaborative research centers.

Dr. Sghaier has authored or co-authored more than 50 publications in peer-reviewed international journals and conferences.

She has been actively involved in several national and international research projects, including:

National Projects:

  • Research on efflorescence and its impact on evaporation in porous media
  • Development of sustainable energy solutions for waste valorization

International Projects:

  • Collaborative research on ion transport and crystallization in porous media
  • International partnerships in sustainable materials and energy efficiency

In addition to her research activities, Dr. Sghaier is the Head of the Department of Fundamental Sciences, Computer Science, and Languages at ISBM and the Coordinator of the Co-constructed Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Biotechnology and Waste Valorization. She is also an active peer reviewer in the field of chemical engineering, with a specialization in drying technologies and porous media.
